Input field types

Throughout the different Sitecore Content Hub™ modules, you can input and edit data. This section lists the available input field types you may encounter and how to use them.

The supported field types are:


In addition to the field types, this section explains the use and purpose of Conditional and mandatory fields.


String fields are used to input plain text data.

To input a string value:

  1. Click in the string input field:

  2. Type your text:

Numerical value

Numerical value fields are used to input numerical values, mainly integer numbers.

To input a numerical value, type your value in the input box or use the arrows to increment or decrement the displayed value:


In some cases, the increment arrows are not available. The input box then looks like a string input field, but necessary value checks are performed in the background.


DateTime values are used to set start and end dates.

To set up a date using a DateTime input field:

  1. Click the calendar icon of the input field:

  2. Select a date in the calendar:

    As a result, the selected date displays in the input box:


You can also type a date directly in the input box.

Drop-down list

Drop-down lists let you select a unique value from a predefined list of values.

To select a value in a drop-down list:

  1. Click the unfolded drop-down list to expand it:

  2. Select a value from the list:

Selection list

Selection lists let you select one or more values from a predefined set of values.

Tick the box next to the value to select it:

Some lists allow you to select multiple values:

Others only let you select a single value. In this case, when you select a value, the others are inaccessible. You need to unselect the previous value to choose another:

Parent/child relations may exist between values. When a value has children, an arrow pointing right shows next to it in the list. To show the children value, click the arrow:

The name of the parent value displays above the list of children with an arrow pointing left. Click the arrow to go back to the previous level of the list:

Radio buttons

Radio buttons provide a limited number of possible values to choose from. They are self-exclusives. When you select a button, the others are automatically unselected:

Toggle switch

Toggle switches are used for boolean choices such as enabling or disabling features.

To change the state of a toggle switch, click it:

  • Disabled:
  • Enabled:


The CKEditor is a smart WYSIWYG Rich Text Editor with media insertion and collaborative editing functionalities:

The toolbar includes the following options (described from left to right in the previous image):

  • Standard text formatting: Bold, Italic and Underline.
  • Paragraph format: allows you to set the text format.
  • Bulleted List and Numbered List to create lists.
  • Decrease indent or Increase indent to modify the paragraphs indentations.
  • Add link.
  • Insert image.
  • Insert video.

The following example contains text in bold, italic, and underlined, a bulleted list, and an image:

Change list properties

It is possible to change list properties.

To change a bulleted list property:

  1. Create a bulleted list.
  2. Select the list.
  3. Right-click the list.
  4. Select Bulleted List Properties.
  5. Select the desired Type in the drop-down list.
  6. Click OK.

To change a numbered list property:

  1. Create a numbered list.
  2. Select the list.
  3. Right-click the list.
  4. Select Numbered List Properties.
  5. Set the offset value of the list (that is, the number of the first item in the list).
  6. Select the desired Type in the drop-down list.
  7. Click OK.

Link a resource

The link feature of the CKEditor is a powerful option that lets you add clickable hyperlinks or e-mail addresses to your documents and control the way the links look and work.

To insert a link:

  1. Click .
  2. Fill out the configuration parameters.
  3. Click OK.

Insert image or video

To insert an image or a video:

  1. Click or respectively to add an image or a video.
  2. Browse through the available assets.
  3. Select the desired asset.
  4. Click Insert.

Icons are a visual way to display action buttons. The list of available icons is provided by the Material Design Icon collection.

To select an icon:

  1. Click the default icon to open the icon selection list: . Default icon may vary.

  2. Select the desired icon from the list of icons:

Conditional and mandatory fields

You can define conditional and mandatory fields for entity properties and relations. You can configure these required fields depending on the workflow defined for the project. Asterisks mark conditional and fully mandatory fields.

If you do not provide mandatory properties when submitting for review, an error message appears. This error message displays directly on the page if submitting changes for an individual entity or on the Background processes page for a mass-edit submit.
