Create and use video annotations

You can provide feedback on video assets using the video annotation functionality. You can also add annotations to audio assets. You use the same method to create and use annotations for videos and other asset types. The only difference is that, with videos, you can associate annotations with a specific frame or frame range in the video sequence.

When you upload a new version of a video asset, you can still view annotations for earlier versions using the menu available in the All files section of the asset details page.

Note

You cannot add video annotations if video subtitles are displayed. To add an annotation, turn subtitles off by selecting None from the CC button.

To create and use a video annotation:

  1. On the menu bar, click Assets.

  2. On the Assets page, click the video asset you want to annotate.

  3. On the asset details page, in the top-right corner of the screen, click Annotate .

  4. On the Annotations page, click play to start the video.

  5. Stop the video at the point where you want to provide feedback and click New annotation.

The viewer switches from the play mode to the annotate mode. Now you have access to the annotation tools.

  6. Use the following tools to add annotations:

    • Rectangle tool - used to select and highlight an area in the video frame with a colored rectangle and add an associated comment. Only a rectangle shape is available.
    • Comment tool - used to enter a text comment in the annotation box. Click Create to post it.

A yellow annotation flag marks the spot in the video where you added the annotation.

  7. To select a range of frames, click on the right side of the annotation flag and, when the two-sided arrow displays, drag to select a time range and then click Comment.

  8. In the Annotation dialog box, enter your feedback and click Save.

Note

You must have specific permissions to reply to video annotations. This issue will be resolved in later releases.
