Edit template

To open a template in the Sitecore Content Publisher editor, you can use one of the following methods:

  • On the Templates page, on the template you want to edit, click Edit .
  • On the inline preview of the template, on the top-right of the image preview, click Edit .
  • On the template detail page, on the top-right corner, click Edit template.

All the actions described in this document start from the template editor page.

The Sitecore Content Publisher template editor page contains an editor on the left and Content Hub tabs on the right. The Sitecore Content Publisher editor displays the document in the center and panels on the left and the right side, where you can specify specific parameters for the objects on the document.

Sitecore Content Publisher editor configuration

The Sitecore Content Publisher editor contains the following tabs, each containing several panels:

PAGEProvides options to create and manage the template pages.
DOCUMENTSets parameters that define the layout of the document.
OUTPUTExports your document in different formats.
RESSOURCESProvides options to import and manage assets you use on the template.
VARIABLESManages the variables inputs.
ENVIRONMENTManages the general settings of the Chili editor.
TEXTSets parameters for text variables.
IMAGESets parameters for image variables.
FRAMESets parameters for frames.
STYLESSets parameters that define the style of the variable.
VARIABLE DATAProvides options to create and manage variables.

Each tab has several panels.

To access and edit the properties of a tab or a panel, click Edit .

Pages tab highlights

The Pages tab contains a Page List panel that shows a preview of the pages included in your template.

You can perform the following actions:

  • : add a blank page to the template, which you can then build using the frames and variables included in the template.

  • : delete the selected page. There must be at least two pages in the template for this icon to show.

  • : move the selected page either up or down.

  • : duplicate the selected page.

Document tab highlights

The Document tab provides the details and settings for the layout of the page or pages, which serve as a canvas for the template.

The Sitecore Content Publisher editor lets you add layers to your template. Digital image editing uses layers to separate different elements of an image. You can see a layer as transparency put over or underneath an image, on which you apply imaging effects.

The Document tab contains a Layer List panel that displays the list of layers used in the document. By default, there is one layer.

You can add, delete, move, and duplicate layers the same way you do for pages.

Variables tab highlights

The Variable Input panel of the Variables tab lists the variables included in the template. Next to each variable appears the current input used for this variable.

You can perform the following operations on variables:

  • For text variables, you can edit the string value in the text box.
  • For image variables, you can:
    • Select asset : selects a new asset to replace the current asset.
    • Remove asset : removes the asset from the variable frame.

Changes are directly visible on the template displayed in the Chili editor. They are only visible in the Design tab, on the left of the page, after saving and refreshing the Sitecore Content Publisher editor.

Text tab highlights

Sitecore Content Publisher editor provides text editing capabilities through the use of several layouts and formatting features.

While word processing software handles text as lines throughout pages, Sitecore Content Publisher editor, a layout tool, uses text organized in blocks, represented by frames. You first create a frame, then fill it with text.

To configure a text frame:

  1. Select a text frame on the template.
  2. On the Text tab, on the Text frame Settings panel, set the following parameters:

    • Fill with placeholder text: fills the frame with Lorem Ipsum text.
    • Hyphenate: inserts hyphenation marks in the selected text.
    • Vertical align: applies top, middle, bottom, and justify alignment.
    • Contains Variables: indicates that this frame has variables.
    • Ignore text wrap: overrides text wrap settings.
    • Text Stroke: adds a stroke to the selected text.
      • Weight: thickness of the stroke.
      • Color: color of the stroke.
    • Columns: divides the text into columns.
    • Auto-Grow Frame: resizes the frame when you add or remove text.
      • Direction: direction in which the frame can grow.
      • Increment: step-size for each growth.
      • Min, Max Size: frame cannot be smaller or larger than these sizes.
      • Restrict to page: frame cannot grow outside the page.
    • Insert: inserts an inline frame at the cursor location.
    • Draw Text On Path: makes the text follow the frame edges.
      • Align to text: alignment of the text to the path line.
      • Align to stroke: alignment of the text to the frame border width only affects when the frame has a border.
      • Vert. offset: adds an offset perpendicular to the path.
      • Flip: flips the text between the inner side and outer side of the path.
      • Char. Spacing: insert space between each character.
      • Point Spacing (before): insert space before a path anchor point.
      • Point Spacing (after): insert space after a path anchor point.

Create a frame

The main functionality of the Sitecore Content Publisher editor is to create variable frames in your template, which you can then fill with the input you want.

To create a new frame:

  1. In the Sitecore Content Publisher editor, on the top toolbar, click Create Frame.
  2. In the drop-down list, select the type of frame you want to create: Text, Table, Snippet, Barcode, Image, Shape, Rectangle, Circle, or Line.

The newly created frame appears on the template preview. You can now configure it using the configuration tabs.

User levels

The Sitecore Content Publisher editor lets you define different access levels for each of the tab and panel components.

To set an access level:

  1. Next to the tab or panel title, click Edit .
  2. In the Users drop-down list, select one of the following values:
    • All: makes the element or functionality visible and available to all users.
    • Administrators: offers the element or functionality only to people with administrator rights.
    • Normal User: makes the element or functionality visible and available to end-users.

Content hub configuration

The right side of the editor page displays a collapsible set of tabs. These tabs represent the variables exposed to users for configuration when creating a publication using a template:

  • Design - editable non-image variables.
  • Frames - editable image variables.
  • Details - template metadata.
